After The Beach Care, by Betzy’s Beauty Blog

We all love summertime and spending time at the beach. Is fun and fabulous but when we get home we notice our skin is feeling dry and need hydration. It’s important to know how to tend your skin and hair after a sunny beach day, to ensure it stays supple, glowing, and healthy. Here are some tips for a post-beach beauty regime.

Start with a nice cooling shower.

Be careful with what you use, our esthetician Betzy Santos recommends washing your face well after a day at the beach. Once sunscreen has served its purpose, it’s important to get it off your face and skin quickly so it doesn’t clog your pores, along with sweat, saltwater, and sand. If you’re not sunburned, then do a gentle exfoliation ” especially on the skin, use brown sugar mixed with almond oil” to scrub away built-up layers. Moisturize with light oil, nothing too heavy. Skin gets dehydrated in the wind and sun, so it’s important to replenish the moisture back into your skin.

“Avoid creams that contain petroleum, benzocaine, or lidocaine. Petroleum can trap heat in the skin and benzocaine and lidocaine can irritate the skin. Avoid products that include retinol, Retin A or harsh exfoliators as the skin is very sensitive after extended periods in the sun.”

  1. Wash and protect your face! After a shower and face wash, You can add moisture with a facial mask that you can DIY with recipes found here at Latino Gringos, “Betzy’s Beauty Blog”https://latinogringos.com/a-homemade-face-mask-can-do-wonders-for-your-face-try-this-one/
  2. Protect your hair! The drying effects of sun and saltwater will suck all of the moisture from your hair, leaving it tangled, frizzy, and frankly, looking like it’s seen better days. Before heading out to the beach, apply a spray-in detangling conditioner to avoid stubborn knots later in the day. Your hair is vulnerable to UV rays too so add in a UV sunscreen to prevent it from becoming straw-like. After a day at the beach, always use a deep conditioner or hair mask, with a wide-tooth comb to avoid tangling and breakage.

3. Scrub those feet! Sand is a natural exfoliator so we recommend you take advantage of your beach time with a stroll in the cool wet sand at the water’s edge.  While you’re in the water rub your feet into the sand for added exfoliation and at the end of a long day, moisturize them using a richly hydrating cream. your skin should slowly begin to soften in a couple of weeks.

4. Use an SPF lip balm protection! The skin on your lips is one of the most vulnerable areas of your body. To counteract their tendency to burn in the sun, use a lip balm with a built-in SPF and re-apply throughout the day. The same post-beach rules apply – use a moisturizing lip balm, especially for overnight hydration and an easy DIY lip scrub also found at “Betzy’s Beauty Blog” on our website https://latinogringos.com/10-best-diy-homemade-dry-lips-scrubs/

5. Rehydrate (drink lots of water) Before you head out for your evening cocktails, drink plenty of water to restore moisture levels to your skin. Try sipping water with your evening meal too; it will help you not to suffer from a hangover and skin dehydration the next morning which is never a great look for a day at the beach.

 Lastly, Don’t forget your sunglasses!
