How do Latinos deal with Anxiety?

Anxiety is often a mysterious concept. Latinos know that it affects our emotions, but it is very difficult to describe. Anxiety is experienced differently by each person. You may feel nervous, you may feel dizzy or your heart rate may increase. You may experience hot or cold flashes. No matter how it affects you, it certainly affects your performance and stress level.

You probably want to be able to manage anxiety more effectively. You’re lucky. Some studies have shown that by simply stroking a living creature (whether it’s hairy, slimy, scaly or with a shell) can reduce your anxiety level. However, if that is not possible, there are many other things that you can do.

Here are some key strategies you can use to cope with anxiety:

1. Viparita Karani: This yoga posture is also known as Legs up the Wall, and as its name indicates, it is about putting your legs on a wall. Viparita means inverted, and ‘Karani’ means action, so this posture reverses the actions of our body when we are sitting or standing. This position is an excellent way to relax our body as it improves and increases the circulation of blood to the brain, and this is what will help the body to be calm. It helps to improve breathing, rest the body after a busy day and even has been reported to cure some illnesses. To do this posture, lie down on the floor and raise your legs, leaning them against the wall. You can do it for 5-20 minutes. You can feel instant inner peace and relaxation.

2. Laugh:  When you are confident enough to be the subject of jokes, you gain the respect of others. By injecting humor into your life, so many things change for the better. Humor is also a powerful antidote to anxiety. When you laugh, your body releases dopamine and endorphins, which control stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline.

3. Exercise: Exercise is one of the most important things for a healthy body and a calm mind. When your body feels good, your mind feels good. Exercise produces endorphins and endorphins release substances that make us feel good and happy. When we exercise, we sweat, and perspiration helps to release stress and improve our body functions. Similarly, exercise is an excellent antidote for people suffering from depression or anxiety disorders because it also helps us to have a better mood and changes the cognitive functions of our brain, making us feel better about ourselves. If you’re not used to exercising, start walking or running for 30 minutes a day. When you see how well you’re starting to feel, you can join a gym or something you enjoy. Any form of exercise will help you relax, reduce anxiety, feel better, and improve your health and mental health.

We hope that these tips help you, and remember that seeking help isn’t something weird, or bad if you believe that you need it, then go for it. Only good can come from working on yourself.
